Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer, physicist, engineer, philosopher and mathematician. He was born February 15 1564 and died January 8 1642. Galileo created one of the first modern telescopes. He revolutionized our understanding of the world, successfully proving the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around. He played a major role in the scientific revolution of the 17th century. Galileo has been called the father or observational astronomy, modern physics, scientific method and science. To add to his list of achievements he had a telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus. He also discovered the four largest satellites of Jupiter, and the analysis of sun spots. He died after suffering from a fever and heart palpitations. I selected Galileo because when Galileo wrote his book “two new sciences” he went under house arrest because it went against the church but he still published it, to allow people to understand his work better. I really admire how brilliant he was and how he enjoyed science!
